Wise Civils Ltd was founded by Mark, who is carrying on a long family tradition. He is the third generation of his family to be in the business of asphalt surfacing, paving and dropped kerbs.
His grandfather was one of the earliest people to set up business in this area back in the 1950s. Back then asphalt was still a new product so he was a pioneer of his time. Mark’s father then carried on the family tradition but as a road worker. This not only got him valuable experience but he earned a whole £1 more a day than ground workers. At the time this was considered quite a lot.
In 1988 when he was just starting out, Mark worked for his father’s company where he learned all about asphalt surfacing, paving and dropped kerbs. He then started to get more involved with Civil Engineering and decided to branch out on his own. By the time his father retired, Mark had a growing business and had already learned a lot about all the different aspects of Civil Engineering.
As with all good business men, he learned as he went along. This meant he made many mistakes along the way, but these mistakes are what make him the successful businessman he is today. He’s found out the hard way how not to do things, and now puts these valuable lessons in to practice.
